Here's how the process works. Old tailings are delivered to a flotation plant. During this process a concentrate is produced containing sulphide minerals and metals. 95% of the tailings are returned to the tailings pile as harmless, inert rock, while the remaining 5%, the concentrate, goes to a series of bioleach tanks that contain sulphide-loving bacteria. From The Organization of American States: A preliminary assessment of the technical and economic viability of a proposed project. Alternative approaches to various elements of the project are compared, and the most suitable alternative for each element is recommended for further analysis. Costs of development and operations are estimated. Anticipated benefits are assessed so that some preliminary economic criteria for evaluation can be calculated. The first path would open up opportunities for mining, allow the United States to increase domestic production, create more jobs and enhance our national and economic security. The second path leads to higher taxes and product costs, jeopardizing jobs. At the core of this negative path is a proposed $1.8 billion tax on the moving of dirt for the mining industry. This tax will exacerbate the domestic jobs problem and push even more industries overseas. What is a Massive Sulfide?

Louis Lepry, President & CEO of Tintina Resources (TSX.V : TAU) explains what a massive sulfide is. From Wiki:Volcanogenic massive sulfide ore deposits (VMS ) are a type of metal sulfide ore deposit, mainly Cu-Zn-Pb which are associated with and created by volcanic-associated hydrothermal events in submarine environments. These deposits are also sometimes called volcanic-hosted massive sulfide (VHMS) deposits. They are predominantly layered accumulations of sulfide minerals that precipitate from hydrothermal fluids on or below the seafloor in a wide range of ancient and modern geological settings. In modern oceans they are synonymous with sulfurous plumes called black smokers. They occur within environments dominated by volcanic or volcanic-derived (eg, volcano-sedimentary) rocks, and the deposits are contemporary and coincident with the formation of associated volcanic rocks. As a class, they represent a significant source of the world's Cu, Zn, Pb, Au, and Ag ores, with Co, Sn, Ba, S
Viewed 355 Times
Rated : 5 by 2 users
Click Here To Watch

<media:player url="/?v=3337" />

Mining 101: Ep 21. Speaking at a media briefing in Cape Town, Hondeklipbaai community leader David Markus said the sale cannot be allowed to continue until they were assured that the companies would honour their obligations to rehabilitate the area. "We make an urgent call on the DMR to hold these companies to account and to not forget the communities that are directly affected. While you might expect this to mean more output, some Chinese mining firms have a different approach--working lower grade ore. The gold price is hovering near the $2000 range, as global finance markets remain unstable. For many world mining operations, this has meant something of a golden age. The law of supply and demand dictates that as gold is worth more, there will be greater efforts to boost output and take advantage of the price conditions. But things are different in the east Chinese city of Zhaoyuan. It's known as the country's gold capital for its abundant deposits. One small privately-owned gold mine here is estimated to produce some 350 kilograms of gold a year, out of 120 tons of gold ore explored every day. Production has stayed stable despite the recent price jumps—like some other Chinese gold mines, Zhaoyuan's are keeping output steady, by expanding operations into lower grade ore.
Viewed 569 Times
Rated : 5 by 4 users
Click Here To Watch

<media:player url="/?v=3262" />

In Chinese Gold, Demand for Stability over Profits
<media:keywords>China gold finance markets price</media:keywords>

Vale in Africa

Creamer Media's Shannon de Ryhove speaks to Mining Weekly senior deputy editor Keith Campbell about Brazilian miner Vale's activities in Southern, Central and West Africa.
Viewed 247 Times
Rated : 0 by 0 users
Click Here To Watch

<media:player url="/?v=3250" />

Vale in Africa
<media:keywords>Vale Brazil Africa iron ore</media:keywords>

Interview with UBC Mining Professor Scott Dunbar

Dr. Scott Dunbar talks about his webcast course Mining 101 (www.edumine.com - presented by EduMine)
Viewed 285 Times
Rated : 0 by 0 users
Click Here To Watch

<media:player url="/?v=3274" />

Interview with UBC Mining Professor Scott Dunbar
<media:keywords>Education Dunbar webcast course</media:keywords>

Interview with Argex Mining Inc.
